About District

Lower Siang District, richly endowed with scenic landscapes and cultural diversity, is nestled amid lush green valleys and pristine rivers in Arunachal Pradesh. The district is bordered by the mighty Siang River, a lifeline that carves through its picturesque hills, making the region a vibrant mosaic of nature and tradition. Here, life begins early with the gentle rays of sunlight illuminating terraced farms and forested mountains, while serene villages awaken amidst mist-covered valleys, welcoming each new dawn. Covering an approximate area of 3,500 sq km with a population of about 22,630 as per the 2011 Census, Lower Siang is home to various indigenous communities deeply rooted in their rich heritage. The name "Siang" is derived from the majestic river flowing through the district, revered by locals for its vitality and spiritual significance. Formed through administrative reorganization, Lower Siang emerged as a distinct district on 22nd September 2017, carved out of parts of West Siang and East Siang districts. This administrative milestone marked a significant step toward improved governance and sustainable development, making Lower Siang the 22nd district of Arunachal Pradesh.
